In last weeks Broomy’s Bairns we had the children continuing to design and make their own clay tiles!
The tiles are going to be used to line the walls of our upcoming Broomy’s Bees Garden on Ann Street, in Broomhill. You can find out more about the garden here.
When designing their pieces, we’ve asked the children to think about things that feature in a garden, from plants to small animals and beasties, as well as the heritage of the Broomhill area, and Inverclyde.
Once they’ve designed a few tiles, we roll out the clay – each to the same dimensions – and give the kids a variety of tools to draw out their designs onto the tile shaped clay. The next week the kids come back in, we give them a range of coloured slips to use on the tiles before being fired in the kiln, ready to use.
The Broomy’s Bairns Art Classes are every Wednesday at the Broomhill Art Flat, with the first session starting at 3.30pm, until 4.30pm, then the next session starting at 4.40pm, and finished up at 5.30pm.
