In preparation for our Broomy’s Bees Garden, in which we’ll have decorative tiles with information about bees and ecosystems, we have worked on repeated tile patterns in the Wednesday Kid’s Art Club.
The kids had the option of colouring and copying a pre-drawn image or designing one of their own. After they had worked on their first image, they traced the picture and then copied it onto another square. The simple act of tracing lines, and then imprinting these by pressing hard again on the other side of the tracing paper mesmerised the kids.
In the next session, we tried printing with polystyrene blocks and poster paint using our repeated tile patterns.
The painting got a little bit wild after a while, but however the kids are using the materials, as long as they are experimenting, learning and discovering, we’re happy.
